Sunset Farm Sausage!

Sunset Farm has a long history of making delicious sausages and other meat products. Available for purchase on the Sunset Farm website you can find smoked sausage, Polish sausage, beef sausage, boneless ham in a variety of sizes, chub and loaf sausages, breakfast sausage, chicken sausage, smoked ham and bacon, and much more! They even carry all natural products that include Bell Pepper and Onion Sausage, Garlic Herb and Tomato Sausage, and Jalapeño and Monterey Jack Sausage. Their products can also be purchased in variety packs. These all natural sausages contain no nitrates or additives. 

I am a huge fan of sausage! I use it in so many different types of recipes. I use it in my chili, lasagna, meatballs, Shepard's pie and goulash. If a recipe calls for a pound of beef I will usually use half a pound of beef and half a pound of sausage! I like the unique flavor that it can give a meal. I was pretty excited when Sunset Farm offered to send me some of their sausage products to review. I am always willing to try new foods from different brands, especially brands that have all natural products. This sausage did not disappoint! Both flavors I received had a nice snap to them, tasted fresh, and didn't taste like they had been loaded up with a lot of chemicals like some sausage products can. 

As a part of the review Sunset Farm asked if I would make some recipes showcasing their sausages. I first looked at their site to see what sort of recipes they had. I was immediately drawn to the Brunch Casserole.  This is the perfect breakfast for when you have friends or in-laws staying over.  Like I said, I found the recepie on the Sunset Farm website, but I did modify it a little bit. 

Here is what the original recipe calls for:
  • 2 pounds Sunset Farm Brand Smoked Sausage
  • 8 slices bread, trimmed and cubed
  • 3/4 pounds sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups milk
  • 3/4 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 1 (8 oz) can sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 1 (10 3/4 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 soup can milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
I used a package of Cracked Pepper Smoked Sausage, and the listed amounts of bread, cheese, eggs, milk, cream of mushroom soup, and butter. I think it came out just fine.

The original instructions are:
  • Fry sausage and cut into bite size pieces.
  • Arrange bread in greased 9 X 13 inch pan. Cover with cheese.
  • Beat eggs with milk and mustard.
  • Add mushrooms. Pour over top.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Let stand at room temperature for 1 hour.
  • Dilute soup with milk and pour over top. Dot with butter.
  • Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour.
I was on a time budget, so I did not leave the mixture to sit over night. Instead I let sit in the fridge for about two hours, then let sit out at room temperature for one hour. I put some butter on top of it right before I threw it in the oven. I baked it at the directed degrees for one hour.  I absolutely loved this. I have never had anything like it before. 


I like how versatile their sausages are. You can use them for any meal, breakfast lunch or dinner!.

The next meal I made was a quick and easy Sausage Alfredo!  I like to find better alternatives to add to recopies that I already make. I found the Alfredo Sauce recipe here: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/alfredo-sauce-2/ a long time ago, and it is what I have been using every since. It is incredibly easy to make. 

The ingredients include:

1/4 cup butter

1 cup heavy cream

1 clove garlic, crushed

1 1/2 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

The directions are simple:
Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium low heat. Add cream and simmer for 5 minutes, then add garlic and cheese and whisk quickly, heating through. Stir in parsley and serve.


When I was just about finished making the Alfred Sauce I warmed up some of the sausages, cut them into bite size pieces, and made some spaghetti according to the directions on the box. This meal was super quick and easy to make.
